Work in Progress (WIP) Advancement Committee
The FIE 2025 WIP Advancement Committee plays a key role in enhancing the impact of early-stage research and helping the authors convert their papers into journal manuscripts. This committee rigorously evaluates WIP submissions and selects those with strong potential for extension into a full journal publication. Selection criteria include:
- Quality of the paper
- Potential to develop into a journal-worthy manuscript
- Relevance to the conference theme
The committee reviews all accepted WIP papers against these additional criteria, identifying the highest-quality WIP papers. The selected papers are invited to submit an extended manuscript for consideration in a special issue of our partner journal. The committee will send guidelines for the submission in their invitation emails.
Journal Information
Our 2025 Partner Journal: ASEE Computers in Education Journal (ASEE CoED)
For the papers of FIE 2025, we are proud to partner with the Computers in Education Journal (CoED), published by the ASEE Computers in Education Division. CoED is a respected, peer-reviewed, fully online, open-access quarterly journal that serves educators and researchers in engineering, mathematics, science, and computer science who seek to improve instruction through computing technologies.
CoED emphasizes:
- Innovative uses of computers and computational methods in education
- Tested, practical curricula and teaching strategies at all educational levels
- Broader adoption of computational technologies by educators and institutions
Submission and Publication Pathway
- Authors submit WIP papers to FIE 2025 and present them at the conference if accepted.
- The WIP Advancement Committee identifies standout submissions based on quality, alignment with the special issue theme, and promise for further development.
- Selected authors are invited to submit extended versions through CoED’s rigorous double-blind peer-review system.
- Upon acceptance, these papers are published as part of a special issue, spotlighting FIE-originated work that demonstrates strong educational innovation and scholarly merit.
Benefit to Authors
- Visibility & Credibility: Transitioning from a WIP presentation to a published journal article elevates the impact and dissemination of your work.
- Special Issue Recognition: Accepted works gain heightened exposure in a themed collection that underscores the best of FIE & CoED collaboration.
Anticipated Timeline
- The committee will reach out to authors of selected papers around the FIE conference this year (November 2025).
